I had so many professions up until this point, in my search for the ideal one. I worked in hospitals sterilizing surgical instruments. Then I was in the restaurant business, waiting tables and bartending for many years. Since then, I was given the opportunity to go to hair school and work in a salon. It was during this time that I met Rene Cote’. She offered me the Arbonne opportunity. It was such a driving force for me to be successful. I felt like I had something to prove. More than anything, I wanted to know that my family would be proud of me.
Shortly after I joined Arbonne, my father caught the largest small-mouth bass of his fishing career. Unfortunately, he got so excited that he passed away while in his boat. I had always wanted my father to be proud of me. A couple of weeks before he passed away, he told me that he thought I had finally found my niche with Arbonne, and that I should get my mom, Peggy Anderson, involved. At that time, I named my Region, “The Legacy Team,” in honor of my father. It was not a monetary legacy that he left me; it was a legacy of knowing that hard work and persistence can help you achieve any goal, and that it always pays off in the end. My father and mother taught me a great work ethic. Probably the most powerful thing they ever taught me was that I could be whatever I chose to be.
I think in life we make many good decisions and sometimes we make bad ones. I know becoming involved with Arbonne and building a business was one of the best decisions I ever made.
I am not the same person today I was when I started this business in June of 1995. The personal growth that came with building this kind of business is amazing. I believe Arbonne is a personal growth company disguised as a personal care company. In the beginning, I felt Arbonne had a great opportunity. I had no clue how my life was going to change. It was a great opportunity then, but today, I can honestly say it is the opportunity of my lifetime. Arbonne has been experiencing record-shattering growth for the past few years and I believe it has only just begun.
I went to NTC 2000 Toronto, and our beloved President Rita Davenport showed a video of a young woman running a race. She was in the lead and then unfortunately fell. She got back up and continued to run some more, and fell again. This time, she did not get back up. She was physically exhausted. She lay there in the gravel, face down. When the paramedics came and tried to take her away, she would not budge. Then, the most incredible thing happened. She began to crawl through the gravel, a few inches at a time. All of the runners in the race ran past her and finished the race, as she continued to crawl and crawl through the gravel. And much to everyone’s amazement, she crossed the finish line on her belly, crawling. It was incredibly moving and inspirational to me.
You see, I saw myself as that fallen runner, crawling with every ounce of strength. I had my share of setbacks, just like others who will read my Eye On Arbonne story. But to see her crawl over the finish line, I could relate. You see, the most important thing is that she finished. Whether she ran or she crawled, she finished! The day I saw that video, I made a promise to God and myself to become the very best I could be — no matter what it took. That would be my personal mission for the rest of my life. I am humbled, honored and proud to be a new National Vice President with Arbonne. I feel this is a new beginning for my team and me. We have only just begun to scratch the surface of our potential. And I am here to tell you, you have not seen anything yet. The best is yet to come!
When I first began my Arbonne business, there was a training held in two separate rooms. Diane Davis was training in one room while I was in the other. Suddenly, I heard through the wall a group of people yelling as loud as they could, “I am going to do this business no matter what!” They continued to chant at the top of their voices, “I am going to do this business, no matter what!” Even though I heard it through the barrier of the wall, it has stuck with me to this day. That night, I learned that while barriers or obstacles may stand in your way, you must have a “no matter what” attitude and get through them.
From that moment on, I pledged that no matter what happens, I am going to do this business. Life will happen, it happens to everyone. You have to do this business in spite of it. I know everyone reading this story who chooses a “no matter what” attitude will go to the very top!
It has certainly been an incredible and unbelievable journey that has taught me more than any other experience in my life. The best advice I can give is to rejoice in the fact that you will achieve your goal, so enjoy the journey as much as you can. This is not a dress rehearsal; this is the actual show. My other advice is to just do it now! Do not wait another minute. Go ahead and build a great big business with Arbonne. You do not need to invent the wheel because there is already an effective system in place. All you need to do is work on yourself and teach others to do the same. People are moving their businesses for ward so fast today, securing the future for themselves and their families.
